Default Discussion Topic? Moving and re-establishing a reef tank.

Alright...long time lurker emerging to present a discussion topic.

I've been in the saltwater business for about a year now and have converted a FO setup (~4+ years) to a reef tank (~8 months)...I have just moved all of my tanks to a new house and since my corals grow/spread like weeds 70% of all my LR has some amount of coral established on it...

The eventual discussion is how do others re-aquascape their reef (without crushing any coral)???

I have an idea about what I want the reef structure to look like and a move is the perfect opportunity to make those changes...but I find it pretty difficult to put everything back in its original place due to the positioning of the corals and the awkwardness of the rocks' shape...much less come up with a new layout...so now my reef looks completely different and somewhat...odd...now I'm just waiting for my corals to take over the new scape and fill in the gaps...or maybe I will need to trade for some new frags to fill in the gaps?!?

Discuss away.

yes, it will be hard to put everything back in without crushing something especially if they are covered with something like polyps. You really only have 2 choices though, you can put all the rocks back in to the best of your ability crushing or hiding a few, or switch out some of your fully covered hard to deal with rocks for new live rock and let them fill back in. I just switched from a 75gal to a 125gal my self, and had to work very hard not to crush any of my green star polyps that were on several rocks, but I got all the new rock put in place with no casualties. I had a few that was facing into the dark, but they have already grown to where they are reaching the light they need in just a few days.
