Default If i sell my skimmer....

If i sell my skimmer to get a new one is it ok if i leave my tank runing with out a skimmer for two weeks ? ?? ? like i am selling my built in skimmer in the hang on back refugium
( the same one in i am selling in the market place cause i am building a sump to replace it ) and someones interested but i dont want to waste any money until the person picks it up for sure. and i want to get the ASM skimmer online but when this person buys it from me i will so when i order the new skimmer it would probebly take like a week and a half or two weeks to get to me so i was wondering if its like fatal or really bad for my tank to run without a skimmer for like 2 weeks ????

THANKS FOR THE ANSWERS

how many fish do you have? If you have some power filter I think it would be ok, but skimmerless for 2 weeks, I dont think so.

You can go skimmerless for 2 weeks. There are a bunch of people that don't use skimmers at all, however, I am not one of them. Just make sure you do your water changes. When doing the water changes get as much detritus out of the tank as you can.

You shouldn't have any issues without having a skimmer running for a couple weeks but there are two things you need to think about. First off, your skimmer is adding a ton of fresh oxygen into your tank that will go away once your skimmer is removed so you may want to direct another powerhead or two at the surface to make sure that your tank's oxygen levels stay up. Secondly, your tank is acustomed to having a skimmer on your tank so removing it will cause any excess waste that would usually have been removed from your system to remain in the tank. This could cause a small nitrite spike (unlikely) or your nitrates to start rising (fairly likely) since your tank doesn't have enough bacteria in it to process all of the waste until it gets used to the change. Because of this, I'd recommend that you do a water change after a week without the skimmer running.

There are pictures of the tank in my gallery. They are about 4 months ago. I think one way to not run a skimmer is to have a very low bio load and good refugium. It's not like I didn't try. The skimmer that came with my sump setup never eally ran right so I just quit using it. I have a new homemade refugium that is 55 gallon.
