Default Algae in reef tank

I have a 150 gallon tank that I have attempted to set up a reef on one side. My lighting is good. I have a refugium system with a stabilized plant colony. I also have a protien skimmer that I use on a regular basis. Despite all of this I am struggling with green hair algae. I have dosed the tank, changed the water, treated with phosphate removal products but still can't seem to win the battle. I am open to any suggestions you pros out there may have. Thanks.

Hi, what is in the refugium? You may not have enough plant life, also since only half is reef you could actually add some Halimeda to the other side. It is non intrusive and will use Nitrates and I believe Phosphates. For good measure I have a Phosphate reactor and after adding it (before I had the Halimeda) in about 3 weeks the hair was gone.

Glad to see you here at Reef Builders Dave!

What is your lighting?
What "plant" are you using in the fuge and how are you lighting that?
What protein skimmer and how often/long do you run it?
What have you dosed to get rid of the algae?
It would really help if you could geta decent pic of the algae so we could get a positive ID on it.
What do you feed and how often?
Do you use R/O water?
How long has the tank been up?

Algae removal is all about nutrient export. Most of the time it comes from overfeeding along with other things helping it even more and thats the reason for all the questions.

With more info we can prob help a lot more!
