Default Marine epoxy

I've read online that you can use epoxy from lowes or home depot in your tank for glueing frag plugs & rocks, ect. Anyone try this? What brands?

Silicone.

I was thinking more of something that is safe to put back in the tank while its curing like you do with superglue.

Superglue works well for that, I was looking for something with a little more power for rocks. I know reef putty works but I would have to order that cause it's not available locally.

you have to use the gel version. crazy glue jel, loctite jel...any CYANOACRYLATE based jel adhesive will work fine.

the regular crazy glue will just float around on the surface.

for rock, i drilled holes through it and used acrylic rods to hold the stacks, or towers strong, and built on them.
i used a simple masonry bit and acrylic rods from "tap plastics". they were cheap, and are now covered with coralline.

can you use silicone sealant to fix baffles in place? if so, do you have to buy it from a pet store?

No, just buy the 100% silicone & let it cure for at least 24 hours (For Strength)

i called a few silicone manufacturers and they told me that they do not have to list on the packaging if they use antifungal chemicals in their 100% silicone, and most of them do.
i would spend the extra 2 or 3 dollars and purchase aquarium silicone from the lfs.

How about if you have a frag on a plug or piece of LR and you want to attach it to the LR in your tank without tearing down your aquascape to get out a piece of LR? I'm looking for something that I can use underwater to attach the frag plug or piece of rock to my aquascape.

crazy glue jel is fine for this. if you generously apply it, it will hold until the coral encrusts.
just put a generous amount on the bottom of the plug, put it where you want it, and hold it for like 10-15 seconds. it should do the trick.

I think Aquarium grade silicone is nothing more than 100% silicone, just cost alot more & comes in tiny tubes. If your using it for your fuge, it will be completly cured by the time water hits in anyway.

Perfecto Silicone Aquarium Sealant - Aquarium Maintenance - Fish - PetSmart

it comes in 10.3 oz tubes, and is only 6.49.

curing is not the issue. it's the anti fungal chemicals they add to 100% silicone which can be detrimental to your reef.

Thats a good price, all we have up here in Alaska is the little tiny tubes at Petco (4 or 5 oz.) & they cost more than that. I use Dap 10 oz from Home depot, it's like $5. Used it for years in sumps & fuges. They must be one of the manufacturers that don't use an anti fungal cause I've never had a problem with it.

I looked at your link, I would agree if that stuff is readily available I would use it too.

I've been doing the following for the past 8+ years:
  • Rubber bands on soft corals (often with a plastic toothpick)
  • Plastic bridal veil mesh for keeping mushrooms in place on rocks or over crushed coral
  • Superglue Gel for gluing SPS corals to frag plugs
  • Havey's Plumber's Epoxy Putty (blue packaging) for attaching frag plugs to rocks. In the past I have used the plumber's putty to attached SPS corals directly to rocks.
