Default fishes in reef aquarium

I have a tank that is 4' long by 18" wide by 24" deep, setting it up as invertibrate fish mix. Need advice on how many fish as don't want to over stock it I think I read somewhere to allow for 6" of fish per 1 gallon of water. Was going to have 2 shrimp , 1 emerald crab and have 3 hermits, just worried about over stocking it

For reef tanks, the maximum number of fish is generally considered to be 1 medium sized fish per 10 gallons of water. Larger fish or types of fish that are active require more space. I prefer to keep it closer to 1 per 20 gallons of water.
