Default Need your thoughts

Hello everyone, something unusual (for my tank anyway) happened this morning. My wife and I went out for breakfast (that's not unusual) and before we left the tanks actinic were on and everything was fine. When we got home about 1 1/2 hours later, the tank is really clouded up (milky white) and the skimmer is foaming excessively. The skimmer is not filling up with spent water like an over reaction it foaming with large foam reminding one of soap bubbles. Alk = 10 dkh, Calc = 460 ppm. Checked for Ammonia and it is 0 ppm. I'm puzzled. Did nothing with the tank in the way of additives or water change. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Possibly a bacteria bloom, maybe even a coral spawn depending on how cloudy the water is. If there were no additives dosed recently and the substrate is not being stirred up, then the only reasoning would be due to the mature level of your system. Unless something went wrong with a piece of equipment, media reactor(s) or a problem in the refugium/sump area. I would check over every pipe, pump and corner of your system from start to finish to see if anything is different than normal. If everything checks out fine, then it is most definitely biological.

Thanks, yes, my LFS buddy suspects a spawn. The only new addition was a Frogspawn coral added Thursday. I don't know if they spawn as their namesake says?

I could be either a spawn or bacteria bloom. Since the tank isn't a new setup and you didn't do any major water changes or additives, I'd suspect spawning as well.
