    Icon7 Can anyone identify this?

    Hello Reefers,

On the stem of my frogspawn there is a bubble growing. Does anyone know what it is, and it it harmful to the tank?
Here is a picture, but sorry for the bad quality; it was taken on my phone.
    Any feedback is welcomed!

    Thank you!

Welcome to Reef Builders Emily, what you see on your Frogspawn is called Green Bubble algae and it looks exactly how it sounds. It is not as common as the others such as green hair and turf algae, nor does it pose as big of a threat by spreading quickly. Though all facts aside it should come out as soon as possible because it too will spread.

Do not puncture or try to remove the bubble inside of your display. Algae release spores into the water column which are then carried away to another location to grow and repeat the process once again. As previously stated, it will not spread as fast as other types of algae but if not removed it will become a problem. Always best to stay ahead.

I recommend getting a container large enough to keep your Frogspawn submerged in, yet small enough to fit inside of your display easily. First and foremost is rinsing the container off with plain water and no soap/cleaning products (RO/DI water is best.) Then dip the container into your display and place the Frogspawn into the submerged container (avoiding contact with the air.) Next, try to wiggle and pull the bubble free using a steady hand and not grasping too hard. If that fails, try getting a sharp knife and slice between the bubble's point of contact with your Frogspawn. If all else fails and you end up popping it, then scrape off as much algae residue as you can inside of the container. As a precautionary task of ensure no algae spores enter back into your system, I recommend "rinsing" the Frogspawn off in additional saltwater from your system either in the same or a different container.

Best of luck to you, let us know if you have any issues along the way!
