| no its not needed, it's just one of the many gizzmos that can make life a little easier if you have the money. all it does is remove more from the water that r.o. might leave. i live in a poor water quality area and my r.o. water works just fine on its own. it's still not a bad thing if you have the money. i believe that there may be more uses for a u.v. ster. but i never got too in depth because i was not interested in them.
