Default How Much Light For Anemones

Hello

How much wattage is good for anemones, the kind that need medium to strong light. I see anemones on websites that are listed as requiring medium to strong light. What exactly is that.

I have a beginner lighting set up. Its a coralife with two 12000k 65watt flour. and two atinic blue 65 watt lights with some LEDS. Is that enough watts?

Thanks for the info.

I've heard that for most soft coral and anemones you want between 7 and 14 watts per gallon, so it would depend on the size of your tank. I would also get a second opinion on that number just to be sure.

four to six watts per gallon is good but also take into the account the intensity. flourescent lights do not have a very high intensity, meaning the light diffuses over a wide area. the color spectrum is another big must, never go below 10,000k color temp. 20,000k is a true blue light while 10,000k is almost a pure white light. below 10,000k the color takes on a more yellow look. i like a 14,000k for its slight blueish tint, but this is a personal feel.

its not enough light..

It angers me that Local Fish Stores (LFS) continue to tell people these power compact lights will work for "anything you want" when its simply not true...

Depending on the anemone, you "might" be able to get away with it honestly, **BUT** you would have to "power feed" the anemone daily to make up for the lack of light and thats something alot of people cant keep up with, and with power feeding comes dirter water and with that more water changes...

T5's or Metal Halides will let you keep "anything you want" literally

Again, I'm glad your asking, its pleasing to see more and more people asking before they purchase lately...

Thanks guys, good info.

Has anybody seen anything like a side mountable MH light to supplement the lights I have.

coralife also makes the clip on / hang on 150hqi light fixtures, priced pretty reasonable as well
