Default black spiny urchin bad???

I have a black spiny urchin. Every so often I have to poke at him (with the end of the net) because he is trying to eat my snails. Do I have to feed him more? I feed him dried algea every other day. He is actually quite big (about 4").

No experience with urchins except one that I caught at the beach and put in my tank there. It ate all the snails I had collected from the beach, so I put it back in the ocean.

He's actually quite interesting. He's the longest lasting creature in my tank. I read that his spines will start to fall off if you have bad water quality. But in my case, which I have tons of nitrates and low nitrite levels, he has yet to lose spines. They only time he loses spines is when I fight with him!!!

I Have Had These Guys Before, Did Not Like What They Did To My Live Rock. The Urchins That I Had Would Get On My Live Rock And Have A Buffet, I Don't Think That I Would Ever Put One Back In My Tank, As A Matter Of Fact I Know That I Wouldn't.
