Default Questions on live rock

Previously on this site a read somewhere about bring back dead rock.

My question may sound stupid to some, but here goes anyway.

How can you tell if rock is live or dead?

Someone mentioned something about bubbles.

My LR never bubbled from the time I purchased it to now, so I'm wondering is my LR live or dead?

Dead rock is basically rock that has been removed from water & allowed to toally dry out killing anything that was on/in it. If the rock has been in water it is no doubt "live" to some extent depending on how long it has been in the water. Bubbling isn't a true sign of live rock.

"live rock" is just an easy way of saying that there are living organisims on or in the rock...over a period of time you will see things grow out of it or crawl on or in it...the live orginisms normally come out a night...once the lights have been out for about an hour shine a flash light onto the rocks and u will see clear little bugs run around...
