Default will shrimp help cycle

i have peppermint shrimp added to my tank and it hasnt started the cycling yet...will the shrimp produce enough waste to kick start the ammonia to start it?

no and he might not survive the cycle. he feeds of offal and scrap food. when people say to use a shrimp to cycle they mean to use a shrimp from the grocery store. place it in the tank and let the decomposing start the cycle.

Did you add "live rock" as well ? if so how many lbs? how big is your tank ?

if you've added enough live rock, that alone will start your cycle...

its not good to add live creatures during the cycle, although some will use damsels as they can tolerate a wide range of water conditions... Its still not nice to do though
