Default wet carpet help????

I installed my new sump 2 weekends ago and of course before all the fine tuning there was some leaks and water splashes. my carpet got wetter than usual, although i tried to get most of it up with towels it was still damp. i am know experiencing a soured/mildewy smell. any suggestions on how to help remove the odor??? i know an unusual clean-up question but surely i'm not the only one this has happened too any help would be apreciated. I wasn't sure about using sprays that close to my tank and obviously i can't shake the powder and vaccuum behind the tank..... HELP

Sprinkle baking soda on the rug & vacuum it up in a day or 2.

febrez will work I use it all of the time and wen my freshwater sprung a leek it smelt terrible so I used it twice a day for a week and the smell was gone but I would be careful that you don't get it in your tank it will probably hurt the fish so what I did was to cover the tank up with some plastic rap(I know it sounds crazy but it did not let the spray in the tank ) after the spray settles you can take the plastic wrap off the tank no need to vacuum!!!

thank you soooo much for all the suggestions. I am willing to try anything at this point, i just didn't want to harm the fish. and i was told by my lfs owner that i didn't need to spray any cleaners etc. in the same room because it was toxic to the fish . So i was running short on ideas.

Never hurts to rent a Rug Doctor or buy a carpet cleaner (not the little ones a 12 Amp Hoover or Bissell). I just dumped a 30 gal water change on my living room floor. I had a Bissell Carpet Steamer and used it to suck up most of the water, then did a shampoo and rinse. Took about 5 days to dry out. (PS. had the carpet steamer because I also own 11 dachshunds - the 11th is a 4 mo. old puppy!)

Bissle Spot Bots are amazing. They have a big circilar area that cleans by itslef and they have a manual part too, so you can suck up any water spills, and you can add cleaner to the water too. The spot bot part works great too, you just fill the tank, place it over the stain turn it on and leave, the machine cleans the carpet for you. I have a 3½ year old, 1½ year old twins, a big dog, a puking cat, and 2 fish tanks so I know about carpet cleaning! I have cleaned our whole carpet many times over using this machine, it has been great. I have even used it to clean a urine puddle off our mattress, and off our van seats, with no smell left over.

The spot bot is affordable too, it was about $145 Canadian, so it will be cheaper in the US. You can buy Bissle cleaning solution, but I have used all kinds of cleaners in it. When we were filling our second hand tank with the old dirty water we spilled a ton and thank God for the spot bot, we used the manual hose and it sucked up almost all of the water, there are no marks or smell. You can use oxy clean in it too, just make sure it is disolved.

I would suggest using a biological cleaner too. Go to the pet store, they have tons of cleaners that use enzymes to "eat" up anything biological in a stain (feces, urine, vomit, food, and I imagine mold/mildew.)
