Default Evaporation

Has anyone come up with a way to slow evaporation? Aside from a humidifier....
Of course one could close off the system, but then we're looking at lower transfer of gasses. I'm just wondering since Colorado is an extremely dry climate....

No way to combat it. Im from ohio so my home stays very dry. I lose about 5 gal. every 2 days from my 180. I have no canopy just halides hanging over. What Im going to do is equip my sump with an automatic leveler in my sump. just like your toilet when the ball cock gets to low it will trigger a valve to top off your sump from a freshwater basin. you can get plans and ideas online. good luck.

i know this sounds crazy but after i put a 95w power compact over my 55gal. sump/refrg my evaporation doubled. so over the area where my trickle box is open and where my other return dumps i put reynolds wrap. i stretched it tight and used duck tape to secure it to the glass and covered about 2/3 of the tank. this fixed my problem. i now evaporate even less than before. and since the level of water in my sump is about half way to the top i still have dead space inside and a huge opening for good gas exchange.

Yes, you can cover your tank, sump and other areas.

Concern is for gas exchange and most likely a build up in heat.

Monitor your temperature, especially in the summer months.
