Default the cure

i have a guy that wants to sell me his 58 gal reef tank only has a protein skimmer and no compact light $250.00 completely set up the only problem is that the live rock has algae growing on it i just getting into this hobby so im really not sure what i should do can live rock die?? or is there a cure?? im not sure where to get the answers so ppl say just buy new Lr however i live in Texas and it 5/lb here thats $300.00 right of the bat what should i do is there a cure??

i dont think the cure is anything more than getting some snails to eat off all the live rock. and live rock can die. when i got out of salt water aquariums a while back, i didnt know what to do with the rock, so my mom took it and put in her garden (dont ask?). so now thats i'm back into it, i soaked it for a couple days, bleached it, put this primer stuff on there and put it back in the aquarium. now its starting to look like real liverock again

ther are two types of aquriums those with algea and those that are going to get algea but don't worry get it set up get your water perameters in order get some help from our little friends (snails and such) eventually your corilline algea will take hold and grow and nucence alges won't be such a nuecence keep and eye on your phosphates keep your light bulbs replaced
