Default emerald crab

I was wanting to get a emerald crab but wanted to hear from some people that have one I want one because they look very cool!!!

I found a sight that has good information on crabs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saltwater aquarium crab page: Arrow , Emerald, Scarlet Hermit, Sallylightfoot, Blueleg, Porcelain, Decorator, Anemone, Horseshoe

MY question is are they good for the aquarium in any way other than eating hair algae???

I had an emerald crab for a good number of years. In fact he turned from being a nice green looking crab into this totally hairy monster. They're supposed to eat bubble algae but mine never did. Mine was a meat eater - I'd throw pieces of shrimp in the tank & he'd go for it.

My crab had to go. He was tearing apart my coral. It may have been just the way he was and you may never have that problem if you get one. Hope not anyway. they are pretty cool looking.

mine doesnt bother my coral.. i hear if you throw in some of those algae waffers he'll leave your stuff alone. i think they mostly go for meaty things when they are A starving, or B someone throws in meat and expects them to not attack things afterwards.

get these things.. they are cheap too!

I asked a similar question and decided to get a couple. I'm supposed to pick them up today. I have some hair algae so I'll see how it does with this. I watched one at the LFS. It seemed to get along well with the other tank mates. It was fun to watch. Let us know how it goes if you decide to get one.

My two Emeralds came in yesterday. As soon as I got them acclimated and released them they went straight to the algae. They pulled pieces all night long. By this morning I could see a difference in my hair algae. They are cool to watch. One even hitched a ride on the back of one of my turbo snails for a while...he would grab at the patches of hair algae on the glass as the snail passed by. Otherwise they ignored my other snails & hermits.

So far, so good. Third day and I just sit and watched them pick away at what hair algae is left on one of my LR. They have almost eat all the algae off of this rock and a little off of another. All the other tank mates have been fine.
