Default Lunar Lights

Can anyone let us know when to use the lunar lights in our reef tank? Do we keep them 10 hours a day with the other lights?

Lunar lights should come on when all your other lights turn off...most likely 8-12 hours during the night.

Thank you, you would think that would be easy to find out at the store, but we got several different answers. Thanks again, and have a great evening.

What should you look for to determine if you need more or less time with the lunar lights?

This is where I'm not much of an expert, but I believe it has to do with spawning corals? Someone else may be able to give you a better answer, but I think it has to do with coral/fish breeding cycles (28 day moon phase and such).

As far as when they should be on, they only need to be on when the main lights are off. The only time that lunar lights need to be more fine tuned is if you are trying to breed fish or corals. In this case you need to get the intensity of the lunar lights to match what the corals would get in the wild. Basiclly the intensity changes over a 29.5 day cycle. Check out this site to see what I am talking about on the cycle.
