Emerald crab missing a claw We got an Emerald crab a couple of weeks ago. It is quite large, body maybe a bit smaller than a quarter, with one very large claw, and one smaller. Yesterday I noticed that one of his claws is missing, and I am sure her had it the day before. What in my tank could take the claw off a crab? I have quite a few hermits, mostly small, and about 6 a bit bigger, 3 blue, one zebra, one orange and one red, and I saw the Emerald crawl over the shell of a blue, then I am almost sure the blue hermit reached out a grabbed the leg or belly of the emerald and piched it. The Emerald was scampering along to go up a rock and went right over the hermit, then I saw a claw come out, and the Emerald stopped very suddenly like it was in pain, sat there completely still for a few seconds with it's arms sprawled, then there was movement in the hermit shell, and the emerald took off. I could only sort of see what was going on.
There is also a very small hitch hiker crab of some sort, but it is VERY shy and never leaves one hole, even at night.
For fish they are all invert safe, a blue tang, yellow tang, two clowns, a yellow watchmen, a 4 stripe damsel and a yellow tail damsel, all are small except the 2 tangs.
I worry about the 4 stripe, but it is very small and seems not to agressive, actually the clowns tend to boss it around. I read in 2 books that they were OK as long as they weren't with anything similar, and now I hear otherwise.
There are 5 peppermint shrimp and a cleaner but they are gentle, and a small red starfish.
Maybe he just broke it off, or it came off from the stress and change of water (from the dealer to us)? Our water is OK, slightly high nitrates at less than 20 more than 15. The rest of the animals seem fine. Will it grow back?
Thanks,
