Default Brittle Stars - Yellowish Red

Some of you may have seen my Alien Abduction Thread. Well... Did we find the Aliens?

This evening, even under MH light we saw 2 Brittle Stars. THEY WERE NOT GREEN!

Their color was something that would be discribed as yellowish red under the MH light.

Could they have eaten our Goby?

Are they safe for our tank? (Some Live Rock and Some Fish)

If they are GOOD how do we feed them?

If they are BAD how do we get rid of them without giving up our Live Rock?

Still missing Goby.... :-( Here fishy fishy.

I've heard that brittle stars will go after fish if they are really hungry. Never seen it myself. I've got three brittle and one tiger stripe to help clean and so far no problem. BUT, knowing what I know, I always make sure that my stars get a share of the food. Most of the time I'll target feed them.

Brittle star, when they grow large enough can capture fish that are small enough for it to eat.

Post a picture of the brittle star, please. If it has bristles all around it they tend to be slightly more aggressive than their counterpart the serpent star which tends to be more scavenger than carnivore. Neither one, however, is a very active predator of fish.

We will try to get a pick. All that we have seen so far are the arms coming out of the live rock.

We will work on pics.

How can we target feed them?

I use mysis or whatever frozen food I happen to be using. I'll put it in a pipette or turkey baster and squirt a little right at them.

I really don't think that you have much to worry about. Green brittles are the ones that go after fish. The rest are pretty much scavengers. I have a black brittle and a couple of unknowns that hitchhiked on a coral. I should be ok.
