Welcome to RB. I saw your post in another thread. I would echo Taras1 in wanting to know how long the tank has been set up. I learned the hard way at first of trying to rush things. You might want to get your water quality issue dealt with first before proceeding. If a RO/DI unit is too much, get some water from a store that does the RO thing or from your lfs if you trust them. As far as the fish goes, I was always partial to the six-line wrasse. I love mine, it looks so cool. Doesn't sit still long enough for a pick though.

What kind of tank are you planning on having - FOWLR or reef? If reef, you need more LR - 1 to 2 lbs/gal - add the rock before getting any more fish. If you're only keeping fish, there are a number of fish you could get depending on what you like - royal gramma, chromis, gobies, firefish, dwarf angels.

i have a 29 gallon bio-cube and i would recommend a pygmy angel. its always swimming around looking for food. a scarlet hawkfish is another good idea. you'll laugh your ass off when you sit next to it and he just stares back at you with those googly eyes. a scooter blenny is a good one or an orange spotted goby. i have so many fish in mine i can hardly remember sometimes. there's always a blue hippo tang but eventually you are gonna have to either trade it in for something else or move it to a bigger tank once it gets too big. i also recommend getting a couple cleaner shrimp. its a trip watching them set up shop and all the fish come over to get cleaned periodically. especially the hippo tang.

Midas Blenny ftw here. Great looking fish and will keep the algae off the glass like a champ. Suppliment his diet with a good spirulina flake and the body becomes almost pitch black.

1. No matter what size tank you're using you need more live rock. If you don't have a sump you need more live rock in your display tank. 2 pieces of live rock probably is not filtrating your water enough to maintain a healthy nitrogen cycle in your tank.

2. Scooter blennies have no place in a 30 gal. tank unless you can successfully feed them mysis shrimp. If you can not it will slowly starve because of it's voracious appetite for copepods which a 30 gal. tank cannot fulfill. Tangs are never welcome in a 30 gal. A tang (besides maybe a yellow tang) should be stored in tanks no smaller than 75 gals. To do otherwise is a cruel and inhumane.

3. Although I know little about starfish I would imagine the chocolate chip starfish will parish as well if you do not put in more live rock. Because it's natural prey (corals) are not present it will eat micro organisms and algae. I doubt two pieces of live rock are capable of replenishing enough algae each day for the chocolate chip starfish to graze.

4. Six-line wrasses are a good candidate as soon as you fish your live rock issues. They're personable, curious and always flashing colors about the tank. Four-lined wrasses are very much similar in their personalities, however, they're green instead of primarily red/blue.
