Default problem with algea

i have a brown velvity something growing on my live rock most is brown but some is bright red it lookes fuzzy like the inside of a sweatshirt it started growing on a piece of star polyps and is overcoming it the polyps are not attatched to anything in the tank but its growing on a few other rocks and i dont know what it is or how to get rid of it.. i have tried to brush it off and it growes back in a short time.. Can anyone help please???

what is your phosphate level and how long are your lights on every day?

the actinic is on 10hrs the day is 9 hrs there 96w dual day and actinic on a 90 gal. system. My test kit dosent have a phosphate tester so i will get back to you with that do you know what it is

i phosphate level is 2.5 and i have some pics in member gall of the red alge i just posted them but i havent found how to post them in the thread yet.. the alge is getting worse but i have been removing alittle her and there. Can you help to rid me of this proplem!!!!

best bet, cut back feeding and check your replacement water. had a guy come in same prob, said using r.o., after talking was using chem. enhanced water to replace evap.

Default algea solution

Reduce Phosphate, Nitrate, and nitrite levels. Keep tempeture around the 78 degree mark instead of the 83 degree mark. Make sure you have a good protien skimmer and maybe even a UV filter.
