sump with a fuge inside of it. Very simple and easy to make get an old tank, section it off, pump, overflow and your done (not quite that easy but o well) the sump allows you to add more water to your system (a +) while the fuge allows you to breed pods and also alllows you to grow algae and plants that will absorb waste and toxins (a++)

I agree 100% with the previous post. You'll want to have a sump with a fuge in it.

Sump with a refugium is definitely the way to go as stated earlier.

I have calculated that on my new 135 I can use two 40 gallon breeder tanks for the sump and the fuge.(I have to build the stand about 4 inch's oversized in each direction). One will be elevated about 6 inch's to provide gravity flow from the fuge to the sump.Talk about excess lol I hope I can afford it.

I have a sump with my protein skimmer in it and a refugium next to it, made it that way because my sump (20H tank) isnt big enough for both the skimmer and refugium. made my refugium out of plastic container from walmart, powerhead gets water to it flows back out to sump thru a bulkhead, refugium is a must totally wiped out my algae problems.
