Default Lights, Camera...ACTION

Hello,

Please everyone give me your 2 cents.

I will soon be adding a 150 gallon mixed reef system to my "Zoo". It is the standard 72widex18deepx24tall. I currently have a nano reef and a 150 gallon FOWLR, so I am not an experienced light shopper. I want to put together a system that will provide a ideal environment for growing and keeping a large variety of corals. If this was your tank how would you "light it up".

Thanks,
Jessi

well, it all depends on what type of corals you are looking at. There are small polyped stony, large polyped stony, sea fans, polyps, soft corals, leather corals. to be on the safe side, I would go with Metal Halides. They are a little pricey, but worth it. I dont have them, so i dont know a great deal about them.

Well since I have a 6 ft tank also this is easy for me to answer. I would look at the Hamilton Prostar fixtures. You can get them in 150 250 or 400 watt MH and you can also choose whether you want PC or T5 or VHO for actinics. The light I have is the 6 ft with 3x250wMH and 2160wVHO.

Thanks...that helps..do your corals grow well? If you did it all over again is that still the choice you would make?

Thanks again

Yes this light is perfect for my tank. The only thing I would have done differrent is get the 400W model for the extra light. Yes most of my corals grow really well. The only ones that dont are the one that dont in the wild either.
