I currently run a standard sump system, how would I go about adding a refugium?

you can get a hang on fuge, or you can make a makeshift one form a 10g tank or a plastic container.

Reef Aquarium Filtration: AquaFuge External Hang-On Refugium

or you can make your own using acrylic and whatnot.

I can personally vouch for the hang on aquafuges. They are a good investment. I have one on my 180. Its not really there for any type of filtration, but it really is a good place for pods to grow. I have so many in there it looks like a little city when they are all moving around.
As far as how they work, they just have a little powerhead that goes in the water and a bulkhead that drains water on the other end.

ok well some work like a hang on skimmer but in detail

a ph or pump pushes water through a tube that is connected to the fuge and then there is an out flow tube that when the water gets to it water will flow back into the display.

Yep! Mtfable is not kidding. I have a HOB fuge that holds 6 gal. I crammend it full of rubble rock live sand and cheato. Its not pretty in there but got tons of pods!
I noticed an increase in pod population after I started dosing plankton for a while. I have several different kinds of little critters swimming in and around the LR at night.
They are gonna make a fish real happy someday soon!

If you can find some fellow reefers in your area going in on a purchase from this place is a good idea. Just surfing their website is fun:

If you have an ipod, may I suggest listening to "talking reef" hosted by rob weatherly ? He has episodes on pods and refugiums (and pretty much anything else you can think of). I just bought 1000+ pods to replenish my fuge for my mandarin . Call Christina at aquaticentertainment 1-813-789-5294. For $38.99 + free shipping you'll get a nice mix of amphipods & copepods.
