| red slime could also be caused by excessive lighting. if your leaving your main lights on i.e. (metal halides) then you should cut those down to about 8 hours. for a twelve hour light cycle use actinic or the blue bulb for 12 hours and use only the white light or your main light for 8. sounds confusing so i do appologize. RO/DI water can still have phosphates in it, exspecially if your using activated carbon. activated means its coated with phosphoric acid, which makes each granual seem larger, with mor suface area. bad to use with saltwater tanks for this reason!! look into all of these thoughts and if your not already using RO/DI then deff. switch.

| well when you buy the phos remover it should tell you on the package how long until the product is exhausted. normaly there will be a noticable color change in the product then you remove and either throw away or rebuff with bleach. if you leave in too long it could cause problems wiht your levels |

| nicholash, Upon your next water change vacuum the substrate a bit. Sand beds become phosphate factories without excellent husbandry.
