Default 50g tang or blenny??

So i already have two false percula clowns, three green chromis, and a coral banded shrimp. I have a pretty bad hair algae problem so i'm using seachem phosguard and its sorta helping so i was thinking on maybe a lawnmower blenny or maybe a tang of some sort. I was also wondering if maybe a bicolor blenny might be good or what else might eat this algae?

Thanks

Lawnmower Blennies are good at eating away the algae. They don't waste any time.

Tangs will not eat hair algae a lot.

I would vote blenny for two reasons. 1st. they will eat more types of algea. 2nd they will fit easily into a 50g tank while the tang will outgrow that tank.

I had a lawnmower blenny for a while and it was a lot of fun to watch because it scoots around all over the rocks.

I think one of my crabs nicked it though...

You might want to get the hair algea under control before entering new fish into the tank. You might want to try some "red slime remover" I have used this in the past and it works usaully in 48 hours its all gone.

If i was you I would do a water change with distilled water atleast and leave the lights off for 2 days, when you turn em back on should be a huge improvement.

I have had a tang in a 30g for 6 months, hes soon to have a 120g, stay away from tangs 50g just isnt big enough, he would need a better home oneday..

If you use tap water algea is constant

My Question is where is your water source? In other words are you using RO/DI or Distilled water? How long has the tank been established? This could be part of new tank syndrome. Turbo snails will mow hair algae down quickly. This is only treating the symptom. Fixing the water column will resolve your algae bloom. Also as noted above reducing the lighting or leaving them off will cause the algae to die off but upon resuming lighting used a reduced schedule because the die off will feed new algae
