| Will either Strontium/Molybdenum and or Lugol's (Iodine) cause significant pH drops? Neither bottle mentions that as a possibility, but we noticed a pH drop and just wanted to see if that's a cause. Due to back problems, I didn't due our regular water change this past weekend, but now see the drop. I don't want to add pH buffer as I'm worried that an abrupt change would cause further issues. We've added a clam and 3 corals to the tank in the past several days, so it's possible that there are other causes beside the supplements. |

| Good question Mike. Im waiting for an answer also. Sounds like we are living in parallel universes. The information I see out there just says, "add iodine because this or that needs it". I saw where AMS advised not to use it as our reef gets enough of it through our water changes and the food we give. Kent Marine iodine says its perfectly safe to use and NOT to test for it as it is a timed release free iodine that will not show up on a test anyway. Ill bet both of us started dosing iodine recently and now we are getting Ph and calcium swings. Am I right? |

| On occasion I use Seachem's Reef Plus, Calcium & Complete additives. Took some 0-6.5 pH paper to see what these additives tested out at Reef Plus & Calcium both tested @ 6.5 (actuall pH may have been higher due to limits of pH paper used). Complete tested @ 5.5 although they claim when formulated it is @ 8.3. Normally one does not add a large volume of these additives to their tank & under normal conditions the tank water would have a diluting effect & you wouldn't expect any swing in the tank pH. However, these & all additives that are used have a chemical reaction as well so they could in fact have some greater effect on pH similar to what Purple Up has.
