Default How much to feed and a question on fighting snails

I have 1 Yellow Tang, 1 Percula Clown, 3 Yellow Tail Blue Damsels, 1 Peppermint shrimp, and 20 snails, Mexican Turbo, Nassarius Snails, and Atlantic Turbo Snails.

I only want to feed them once per day, but I need to know how much of a frozen cube I should feed them at once. I usually cut the cube in half, then dip a cup into my aquarium, and unthaw the frozen foods in the cup I dipped. Am I feeding too little, or too much? I also put freeze dried green algae on a veggie clip for my Yellow Tang and keep it there all day, I change the food on the clip twice a day.

My other question is.
My Nassarius attacked two of my Atlantic Turbo Snails, and killed one, possibly two. Is this normal?

Thanks in advance

Hi Scott

I wouldnt feed ouce a day but feed 1 half in am and the other half before lights out just to make sure everyone is happy and plump (healthy) . If the fish seam happy and healthy then dont change the feeding's Iv never heard of snail's eating each other but how clean is your tank? Maybe the snail's are for say starveing or hungry due to not feeding enough fish food?

Get back to me this is interesting..

I only feed once per day. Everyone has stayed healthy. I try to change the food up a bit between brine, flakes, formula 2 frozen and sea weed. What you want to look for is if the fish are finishing off everything in about 3-5 minutes tangs not included as they graze all day. If it takes any longer, you will have a build up of decomposing food turning into nitrates. Any less, and they probably are not getting enough.

As far as the snails go, they were probably eating the algae off of eachother. You might want to double check and make sure you don't have a crab that decided to hitchhike in. That would be my first guess as to the cause of death of your snail.

Wow. The fish always seemed happy and healthy. Maybe you should stop by and whisper to them to see if they need any psychological counseling for their three second memory. lol

It has been my personal experience that snail in fresh or salt water dont tend to live very long.My average is 6 to 8 months, and one that goes a year should have a beard down to his knees lol. When buying them get the little ones because they are younger and will last longer.acclimate them for at least an hour but 2 is better. If you dont aclimate them properly in 2 to 3 days or even hours your emerald crabs will think its thanksgiving.
