You need to determine why the algae is growing on the rocks first...

How old is your tank ?

Do you use RO/DI water ?

10-12 hrs is the typical light cycle.

Brown algea is generally caused by silicates.Silicates generally come from the water you used to mix the salt in.If the tank is new,2 to 3 weeks old it is perfectly normal to have it. It is all part of the tank cycle,so love your algea lol.If you are not useing ro/di water or distilled water to mix your salt you should be.they wont have any silicates in them.
