Default mourning wrasse I did not even get a chance to enjoy

What a way to start the weekend.
I hate this crap. I picked up this wrasse for cheap because the LFS guy wanted to go on vacation and everything had to go in the store. Sat 3 weeks in QT, did good. I ordered some new arctipods from Reef Nutrition because it really liked those. I started removing the CC from the display tank because it was a pain, but I also thought that the sixline would benefit if it was going to bury itself. Made sure it wasn't coming out of QT until I had so much completed. Removed the clownfish so that they could do some time in QT and tossed the sixline in. Was doing fine this morning. Was. Now he is down the toilet because he was sucked into a small crevice on a Rio 800 pump used to increase circulation along the bottom of the tank. I'm trying to figure out if there is a way I can get another sixline and keep this from happening again. It was the coolest fish I never had a chance to enjoy outside of QT.

Fart.

Thanks. I think I am back in it. I have located a sixline in town that is looking for a good home. I'll see about fixing my mechanical mishaps. I'm back on the wagon.

Oh, I am still grieving. Should have seen the look on that fish's face. I didn't know its mouth could get that big. I am hoping it was a quick death. Then the look on my husband's face when I broke it to him.

Sorry for the fishy loss..

This is why I like seio, tunze, vortech, and korelia type powerheads, its pretty hard for a fish to get stuck to them or sucked in.

Hey Becky, sorry to hear about the poort hing, but glad you're getting a new replacement. Hopefully, the new one will make you forget the old quickly, although I bet you've got that small gap closed. We've got a sixline (one of our first swimmy things), but he stays away from powerheads and goes in and out of the rocks.

BTW, we lost our Blond Naso Tang last week - just disappeared and consumed by the crawly things within 36 hours. We found a newer, bigger one this week that stands up to the tank bully and is beautiful. (And yes, I can just hear you reminding me about a QT that I should have.... and I sit here suitably chagrined)

It's always an unfortunate thing when we lose one of our swimmy kids, but if we learn something from each passing, then we're better off the next time around - can't turn back the clock (though we often wish we could), but at least if we gain something from the experience, that's probably the best we can hope for.

I Lost a Wrasse once, I only had him about a week. I even changed some of the CC to sand so he would be able to bury himself. Boy he was quick! He would dig himself in the sand and come shooting out like a bullet. He didn't seem to notice the Anenome I had and got stung and it was a fatal blow. It wasn't a sixline, I think it was a leopard Wrasse, as he was covered with spots. He was cool though.

Sorry for your lost..it's always tough when you lose a fish. I've been fortunate to have my six line for about a year now.... a very cool fish ! I have a good relationship where I get my fish and they quarantine the fish for me before I bring them home. As for powerheads, I have a couple of vortechs and have had no problems with them...knock on wood !

That's so sad.. I'm glad you found another one so soon. This is another lesson for me to consider when setting up this tank... Your experience may save others from the same fate...

I did get my replacement. It was put into the main tank before I went on vacation a week ago and I returned to it swimming around. Always a good sign!

I just bought a naso tang from my lfs. I've got live algae, algae growing on live rock and walls, and I put in algae sheets three or four times a week, but he died. I'm not sure if he wasn't eating or what. All my numbers are textbook. Now I can't find my mandarin. If he goes too I'm really going to be mad.
