Default something growing on my live rock?
I have live rock in a 55 gallon tank. Now, there is a reddish algae growing on it. What should I do? Do I need more snails, or emerald crabs?

It's 1 of 2 things - either coralline algae or cyano. If it's hard & brittle - it's coralline - that's good. If it's soft & velvety - it's cyano - that's bad. How long has this tank been set up & what kind of equipment do you have?

Is it a darker maroonish red, or more of a purple. Pictures if possible. What glampka said is correct.

It is dark maroonish -- I have had the tank for about a year. I have a prefilter, protein skimmer, filter.....What else?

sounds like an algae prob. test your phosphates levels and make sure your not over feeding. How long are your lights on every day??
