I'm new to this site and also to saltwater aquariums. I only have a 38 gal. tank right now and have had it set up for about 5 weeks now. So far I have a few damsels, a star fish, 3 anenomes, and 1 skunk cleaner shrimp. I have tried to put a clown fish in but it died this morning. It looked like it was doing great until about 10 am today. It has only been in the tank since yesterday afternoon. Not sure what is wrong. All levels are ok. I'm suspecting maybe my water temp is a little too high (80) or maybe the salinity was too high. Everthing else in the tank is thriving...I just don't get it.

Any help would be great.

Again...nice site.

How did the damsels treat the clown? Did they pick on it or chase it around the tank. Since you didn't QT the clown it is hard to say if it was sick when you got it or it got totally stressed. How did you acclimate the clown? The first 72 hours in the tank are the most critical so anything could have caused its demise. Without QTing it it is almost impossible to tell at first pass.

Welcome to the fine line we all walk in the endeavor.

No matter how long we have had a tank, we are still novices compared to nature who has been doing it for eons.

Patience is a virtue my friend. You are stocking your tank too fast. Anemones should go into an established tank.

Things do not "thrive" in a 5 week new tank. You are on the edge of losing things in that size tank only 5 weeks into it and adding 3-4 fish.

Need to understand QT. Please research this as it can save you a bundle.

Temp is not too high at 80 and what was the salinity? You say "maybe too high"?

What are you testing for and what are your params? Very important you are testing at this stage of the game.

Keep us posted and good luck!!!!
