can you mix the media in a phosphate reactor, for example charcoal and phosban.

Generally most people just add additional reactors. What other equipment are you using to filter your tank? You can throw a bag of carbon in your sump if you have one.

What I am actually thinking about doing is this...i dont have a lot of room in the sump that i will be using but i found an old heavy duty RO/DI filter cartridge holder and am thinking about running a power head through that and then placing a bag of carbon in there. I dont know if it is possible yet or if it will be worth the money but it seemed like a good idea when i found the casing in a garbage can.

It is easy and cheap enough to build reactors right in the lowes plumbing dept.Just make sure your media is in bags and flows from the bottom up.
