Default What in the name of Neptune is this thing????

This thing appeared overnight in the back of my small reef tank! I have no idea what it is or where it came from. I have recently (last month or so) started to see some small lumps of hardened sand here and there in the tank but this is nuts!!!

I have a large snail (forgot the name now) that I was told would spend most of its time under the sand bed and would be good for mixing it up. I rarely see it...ocassionally it will surface and slither around a little leaving some slimely residue and then submerge again....I think it may be involved.

Any ideas????

Yikes, I have no clue, any chance you can get clearer shots of it? Its hard to tell since its a bit blurry. Do you have any flow hitting that spot in your tank?

The mystery is solved! Its from my Moon Snail... It's a nest. It is built from their mucus or slime and then they lace the inside with their eggs. They should hatch in about 6-months from what I've researched on it.

Pretty strange..huh?

I'm going to post more pics when I can.

Thanks for replying,

Hey everyone,

My Sand Sifting starfish climbing on top of it and slowly widdled it down to nothing. It's almost completely gone! If there were eggs inside, maybe that's why?
