Should spare (empty) shells be added to the tank for these hermits?

Sure, can't hurt. Might reduce some of the aggression. I have extra shells laying around. Problem is, my hermits have been content with attacking each other and the snails and not even caring about the shells.

Abolutely, you should have extra empty shells for your hermits. Conchs tend to live under the sand most of the time anyway...kinda like a hermit?
