| Not that it will help you with what happened. But tomorrow go get a GFI for your tank. It will trip and prevent any thing like this happening to you again. and maybe save you and or family's life. Any time electricity and water are even close to each other a GFI is a must have. People have had the same thing happen and there corals make it and others have lost every thing I hope you are one of the lucky ones.

| Yes, everything in your tank probably got shocked and their is probably some chemicals in your water that will make your corals and fish get stressed out. I would do a 25% water change (or two, 3 days apart) and try to leave everything alone as much as possible. Messing with a stressed out tank will only cause more death. If you see any corals or fish dead, remove them so they don't start causing a nitrate spike. BTW - It's been said already multiple times, but GET A GFCI outlet. If you don't like doing wiring work yourself, you can buy GFCI outlet adapter plug-ins that plug into existing outlets for $6

| They are definately bleaching. Hard to say now if they will make it or not. I would say just give it time and even if they do turn white, dont toss them. They can still come back.....at least a little.

| I had similar thing happen to my tank about 2 and a half months ago except it was my heater that broke and not my light. I keep all my RODI water stored in the cold basement and when i was topping off my tank the drastic change in temp by the heater stressed the glass and cracked my heater. The broken heater shorted out my circuit breaker. After I reset the circuit breaker i had the tank running for about 15 min. before i realized what had happened, all the coral and clams closed up and the tank had a white haze to it. I found that doing 5-10% water changes every other day helps along with drastically reducing lighting time, since the corals get burned badly and light seems to just make them close up a little more. My Pagoda cup took a month to open back up and I feel that it only did so because it fell upside down where it was receiving little to no light when i noticed it was fully bloomed. All in all the loss was my Kole Tang, Flame Hawkfish, Coral Beauty Angel, Pearly Jawfish, Toadstool leather, Green Birdsnest Coral and Crocea Clam. All of my algae in the tank died but has since came back. All in all the tank took about a month and a half to totally rebound so I have confidence yours will return too with proper care and patience. Ps: I highly disagree with using a ground probe inside your tank. The sole purpose of the ground probe is to remove any stray voltage in the tank. Voltage alone CANNOT harm Anything, its the flow of the voltage through the water. Electricity is only looking for one thing, an unrestricted path to ground. All electronic devices let off some stray voltage (some more than others). Saltwater is not that conductive at all, by introducing a ground probe into the tank you would be harnessing all the potential power floating around in the tank and letting it find its path directly to ground creating an electrical bath for your corals. |

That is definitely part of the big debate. GCFI and equipment upkeep should be the bigger priority. I have no interest in being the conduit which trips my GCFI either. Too many people have stuck their hands in their tanks to get a shock. I do not have that kind of time to be laying dead (worse case scenario) on the floor for my kids to wake up to. Jury is still out on what it can do to the fish and inverts.
