Live Rock

Do you have to re-cure live rock if it is bought offline advertised as being "cured" already? I realize there will be some die off during shipment, but will there be so much to require a re-curring process? Would I be better off buying rock locally at higher prices? If buying off the internet is ok, are there sites that sell quality stuff, that won't require me to take out a loan to get it? Thanks!

You will get some die off from the "cured" rock so it's a good idea to cure it for a little bit to take care of the die off. I have purchased from Aquacon.com twice & have been pleased with what they have sent me. By the time you add the shipping to the price of the rock you're probably paying the same as you would at your lfs. A big advantage to buying locally is that you can personally select the rock that you want.

Online you can get so many differant kinds of lr(here I can only get figi). You can cure it easy enough in a plastic tub or garbage pall with a power head.

Any time you order LR off the internet, its best to cure it no matter what. They is always die off anytime the rock is not in optimal conditions. As far as where to purchase online there are so many places to get it and they all claim to have the best. Just do a google search and do some research. If you want to save money and arent in a big hurry you can always make your own rock. Here is a link for a DIY: Untitled

I bought some bali and alor live rock cured already, and I found no need to recure because it didnt have a bad smell to it, i just lightly washed it off in RO water then placed it directly into my tank and did not see any change in water quality, but if the rock does smell then yes i would recure it, but if your paying top dollar for exotic live rock just overnite it and there will be nothing to worry about
