Default Live Sand

Ok, so I am starting my tank over. I have been told that buying Live Sand is really just a waste of money..that I should just buy the Aragonite sand and the LR will seed it. I would like to know your opinions on that.

Thanks in advanced!

IMHO use a mix - regular sand and live sand. I used a 3:1 mix. I think it kick started my system.

Do you mean a 3-1 as in regular sand 3 and live 1?? I was thinking a mix would be best myself...but if I can save a few bucks to put toward other stuff I am needing hey...I figured it was at least worth asking about.

Non live sand will eventually become live with bacteria.

See, that is the way I understand it...I'm not sure I want to spend the extra if I really do not need to.

Does anyone know about this site??

US Marine Systems - Online Store

They have some great prices and shipping isn't bad either. I was looking at several different types and thinking something like 15lbs base and 25-30lbs "premium"? Would that sound ok??

Lady G,
You can buy non live sand, and purchase some GARG grunge to seed it. This is some pretty neat stuff, and also cheap.

Yes 3 parts regular sand to 1 part live sand. It just worked out that way for my tank (90 gal).

I just get live sand to start with because it comes loaded with bacteria and all little microgoodies...so you don't have to wait for it to be seeded and have a good biological filter to start with, and it's not even that expensive.
