Default Live rock problem

Ok so I bought another 50 lbs of really nice live rock. The problem is it got caught in an unexpected cold front for two days in portland, It didnt freeze, however it smells bad like it has a ton of dye off. I currently have it in an 18 gallon plastic tub with a 500 gph pump.

Is my attempt to bring this rock back to life futile? And if not what kind of time frame am I looking at? Should I do water changes with the rock? There is no hurry to put it in the tank so time is not a problem. Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
G

Some say that water changes will prolong the cycle time. Whatever is going to die off will die off with or without water changes. The "live" part of the rock will multiply and seed any base rock or any parts of the rock that have died off.

Time frame - depends on how much die off - maybe 2 weeks maybe 4, check your levels periodically.

the light will just cause algae to grow .. and you have nothing to eat it so . leave the light off
