Default Ich

I have a 50 gal tank with a snowflake eel, dwarf lion, maroon clown and yellow tang. The tang suddenly has Ich. What can I treat it with that won't harm the lion?

Hi Elaine
Your going to need the extra tank and treat ALL the fish for six week's....copper treatment's is the only good treatment for ick that i know of...As far as seafood item's- shrimp, krill, scallops, clams, white fish, but not live feeders. Put the selection on a feeding stick and dangle close to the fish. I'd also try this just after lights-out... these fish prefer darker spaces and would do well if you could provide it a cave or similar structure to call its home.IF you get your lion to eat as above half the battle is won. Use your search tool on msn or google Dwarf lion fish and you'll find lot's about them...

As they all said you need a QT your tang for 6 weeks as I did.
If the others get it also you need to take them all out of main tank and put in QT.

Default sich with ich

Sorry to hear about the tang's sickness.

I have heard of a product to treat ich that is reef safe, but I don't remember the name of it. I will try to find out... Meanwhile, closely observe that maroon clown. They have been know to be very aggressive toward other fish. How big is your moray? Is there any tank bully. Are there any other issues causing stress, like the tang not getting enough to eat? Does he have white spots on the skin, gills, eyes. ? The white spot organism can be difficult to control. The encysted stage of this parasite is resistant to most treatments and remains in the gravel of the aquarium. I think the whole aquarium needs to be treated. The antibiotic chloramin T can be used as well as copper products. If you have inverts, copper will kill them, or live rock, it will sterilize it. Good luck, and I'll try to find the name of the stuff that is reef safe and pretty effective. A quarantine tank is ideal.
