Default Problems with my refuge?

I built a DIY HOB fuge and it seems to be working great at first. I added a copepod starter and some cheato to it. The first problem is, i thought the macro algae is suppose to attache to the substarate?! second, when i added the copepods you could see them all swimming. Now i cannot find a single copepod. Should i buy another copepod starter? i have no live rock in it just live sand. Is there something i am doing wrong

The cheato will just roll around in a ball and not attach. If you want to visit your pods come back at night with a red flashlight.

I would add some LR it gives the pod's a place to live. While you are at the LFS get a cup of the dust from the bottom of the LR tank it is full of life. They should give it to you or only charge $1.00 or less. Depending on the size of your Refugium 1 oar 2 lb of small pieces of LR should do the trick. You can hold the cheato in place with some of the LR to but it will grow like crazy and have to be trimmed back.

PS. What part of the state are you living. Maybe we could swap a few frags.
