Default Plants in aquarium

I had a thought of make my reef aquarium a mix. On one side I was going to put some plants. Halimeda Plant, Xmas tree plant, Shaving bruch plant, mermaids fan plant and maidens hair. The other side will be packed with live rock. I will have some rock in amongst the plants but most will be on one side of the tank. Can this work? I know they have refugiums. I do have one which I will set up and put LR, sand, and Cheto in it. But was curious if anyone ever tried this.

If I did not have any herbivorous fish I would do that. I have tried the shaving brish with little success. They seem to deteriorate over a few weeks and end up making a big mess of things. I would just try the usual mangroves, halimeda, or possible some seagrass if you have a 4" DSB.

If you end up getting the mermaids fan, let me know how it is because I have always wanted one! They seem like a very interesting plant.

"Danger, Will Robinson, Danger!" Maiden's Hair will take over if you're not careful. I accidently introduced some on a piece of live rock and it became a real problem. Looks like I may have to "boil" my live rock to kill it.

Yes, maidens hair is not good because if the fish eat it, they will get sick. Inside the plant there is a type of poison, I forget the name of it.
