new problems

I have a fortyfive gallon aquarium and have had it set up for about a year. I have never had any problems untill about two days ago when I noticed that my feather duster started to look not look normal then notice my anamonie was kinda witherd or sick. sense then both my feather duster and my anamonie have died{feather duster has lost all of its top] all of the levels in the aquarium accept for my nitrate levels they are at 160. So I had replaced about 5 gallons of the aquarium to help try to lower the levels of nitrate:confused: It didnt do anything at all. This is the only problem I've had I dont have alot of fish only 5. I feed every other day and clean the aquarium on a regular cleaning, and testing every other week. If any body has any good ideas please help. I would defintley like some help

I think the first thing I would do is a 50% water change and move your fish to a QT with clean water, then start looking for the culprit. Do you have a DSB or plenum? Anything else died lately? What kind of skimmer? Filter type? Sounds like some nitrate bomb just went off in your tank. Any chance your skimmer fed back into your sump or tank?

Keep us up to date.
