Default electric current (bad heater)

I had a heater go bad it melted the plastic on the bottom of it then started leaking water in, then shocking the tank I had a dog face puffer in the tank that was doing good up to this point would the electric current over several hours stress it to the point of no return.

Once I removed the heater it perked up a little bit, next morning it had gone to fishie heaven.

Can the fish/coral be stressed by this?

Yea, electricity can mess fish up alot. You may want to look into a grounding probe, a few people have got them after something bad happened in their tank. I know that Elliott had a powerhead go bad and ended up having to get one. They are like 16 dollars so its not bad at all.

Really, almost a must. I think I got one for $12.00 or so and for the expense of expensive corals and fish why would't you have one?

Yup, as Jeremy said, I got a grounding probe. I would highly highly suggest one for all tanks!

For a while, my coral was bleaching becuase of the electric. If you google, you can find a lot of info on this subject. On fish, I think the electricity can make the fish get lateral line and hole in the head or something like that.

you guys hit it right on the head, a ground probe is a must, these also come in handy if you have an older home where you do n ot have a ground from the outlet.

I should clarify something. A grounding probe is only a temporary solution...just in case.

e_baer, can you tell me why? the probe is a temporary solution, I thought "just set it, and forget it"... I do not have one in use, now, just wanted to pick your brain, and get your opinion.
