Hello all; I have a 90 gal just been up and running about 5 weeks.

2 250W Halights

Several good pcs of Live Rock (Fiji) Just added Carpet Annommine(sp) Also 4 Damsle Chrome, 2 Seabay Clowns, and one Worm Goby. We also have 30+ Snails, and 20+ blue leg crabs.

I have had several people tell me different things regarding water Temp. I'd like some advice.

How long should I keep the lighhts on and what is the MAX temp for the tank.

I have been 79-81.8degrees, is this to hot?

I run 78-80 with the lights about 12hr atinics 10 hr daylight.

In the winter I was at 74-78, since its warmed up Im running 78-82, day it hit 82 was fairly hot outside, Ive set up a fan blowing on my sump and its been peaking around 80 since then.

I would try to run the lights 6-10 hrs per day depending on how much they heat the tank, If you start going above 82 consistently cut back on the timing or find a way to help cool the tank.

Consistency is the key and 78-80 degrees is fine. I'm more concerned that your overstocking in such a young tank.

Anemones should not be added to a tank until the tank has matured 9-12 months.

Good luck Mr Wedge. Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. Put up some pics and keep us posted how everything is doing.

Well, i think tht most of the other posts here make it sound like your going to loss everything in your tank. Not so if you keep up some things tht most beginers dont think about or test for until after they have ben in it for some time. Make sure most of all tht you water peramters are in line. amonia, PH, nitrite, nitrate, and water temp are soem good things to start with. When you get a lil more comfortable and start adding corals , test for calcium, phosphates and magenesium are so good things at tht point.
Questions, questions, qeustions, and ask more questions. Thts the best way to learn about your hobby, when you dont know something ask whoever knows about your hobby, this sight has alot of knowledgable ppl are more then willing to help u with whatever you may need, lighting, powerheads, sumps, refugiums,etc. Whatever this hobby has to offer.
Next TAKE things slow, tht was the hardest part for me to learn but over the almost year tht i have been in the hobb i have and my wife has made me learn to take it slow. you arnt gunna have the tank tht has everything grown together and been running for 10 years. When you want soemthing picture whre it wuld go in your and tank, do research on w/e it is you want and make sure tht it will go well with what is alrdy in there. The more you read about what you want the more you may want it more or talk yourself out of gettign it. Persoanlly i have made mistakes like tht getting something i thought was kool but findout tht it would have killed fish or corals in my tank.
As for you what your running in your tank temp wise, tht temp should be fine, some corals and fish like it a lil wamer and some a lil cooloer but a good rule of thump is 79-82 degrees.
A good sight to help post pics of your tank is photobucket.com. Tht will allow us to see what your talking baout and help with our own experiences, maybe heloing you take the right path or not, lol. Its all learning. Just dont get discouraged when soemthing dies or doesnt grw or look how you want, it may not when you first get it in your tank ebut over time it should as it gets used to its new surroundings.
I hope this will help you out in any way it can and not putting down the others but i wanted a more postive outlook then, OMG YOU HAVE A 90GAL and are new with hte hobby. GL and peace with all you fish making decisions lol.

As fas as temp for the tank you are right on there.

IMO more reading and research is needed here. Eventually we all learn...some easier than others....

Mention of QT would be good. Selection of lives stock would be good to read up on also. Water chemistry as well as understanding algaes and how to deal with the different types is a big issue right now.
