First off, forgive me if this is in the wrong place. I am new to these types of things.

Okay, now for my question:

At the fish store, I was looking to by a few blue-green chromises to add with the other blue green chromises to make a well rounded group (from 3 fish to 6 fish), yet there was only one there. Now in the tank with him, (I'll assume it's a he), was fish labeled as a "yellow-tailed chromis". Since they were not fighting, but instead interacting as friends, I thought I should get him and another in the tank above to "substitute" for the blue green chromises. The worker said that they should be fine together, as she has a few. After I went home and started acclimation procedures, I went on-line to find more info. Sadly, there was none, since the fish were actually "yellow-fin chromises". I couldn't find much more then there scientific name, which I found on fishbase.com. If anyone has more info (i.e. temperment), or has experience keeping them, I would be gracious to be privy to one's knowledge.

Thank you and have a great day/night.

P.S. Sorry for the post being so long. I was taught in school to be excessively elaborate.

Default Re: Chromis xanthopterygia

Chrysiptera parasema should be the correct name...

As with most Damsels, the Yellowtail Damsel grows from a docile juvenile into an aggressive adult. As a result Damsels, should not be kept with small docile tank-mates, rather with other aggressive community fishes. Numerous juveniles may be kept together; however, adults will often fight unless they are a pair. If you plan to keep several types of Damsels, it is recommended that you add them at the same time to avoid territorial disputes. Make sure to provide caves or hiding places for them.

The Yellowtail Damsel is not a threat to corals, clams, or invertebrates.
