Default jawfish question

I got a bluespt as you al know, my question is. Do any f you have or have had them not dig a hole and stay in it. Mine digs a hole and will go back to it sometimes, but spends most of the day just swiming around the tank. He has moved spots about 3-4 times but each time didnt stay in the hole jsut swam around the tank. If he got scared he would dart back but then back out again.

Every jawfish i ever saw jsut stayed in the hole, would ceom out but wouldnt get to far from the hole. Any thoughts why this might be.

How long have you had it? It might just be looking for the right spot, if it's recently added.

I love jawfish.I am buy the Keys and the pearly comes from here. But i have never had success with them. They always get real picky about what hole they choose to make or find and stay.I have even personally made perfect little holes for them that thay were happy in,but at night every one i have had would come out at night, get lost in the flow until daylight, then go back to its hole.Had 4,lost all of them.Good luck.

A very amazing fish for sure.
Make sure you have a rubble pile with peices he can move and can easily get to. Mine has gone through several piles building his den. I have found that nature seems to keep all this in check, though, as his den building and tunneling becomes more severe older sections begin to cave back in.

Just my humble opinion but, i think if your is swimming around then he must feel comfortable in your tank and not threatened -- a good thing. Or, maybe he is looking for more food. Mine only seems to leave his den for feeding.

My sand bed at places is abotu 4", but i think all i needed was some small substrate for him to grab and build with as soon as i added it to the tank he built 3 tunnels and uses all three, lol, there such funny lil fish, buti love them.

That's excellent.
Add some every now and then.
I have actually watched mine take small pieces of rock into his tunnel to help brace it from the inside. It worked to an extent! I started to get a little worried but, all is well.
