Default Pearly Jaw HELP !

I'm a vintage reefer that has been out of the hobby for some time. I would like to get back into it seeing he tecnological advances with salts. One of my favorite were Pearly Jaws my son and I are having a disagreement re the type of substrate to use. I say a mix (small and large) he says strictly sand what does anyone say?

A jawfish will enjoy a good deep sand bed that is fine sand. Just make sure you add al ot of small shells and course sand, small pebbles etc. so he/she can re-inforce its home.

Thanks for your input, I figured that was the way to go as I remembered. Unfortunately, you just can't purchase say 5lbs of coarser substrate that I can find.

I have a pair in my tank.(funny they didnt like one another at first but now they are inseprable) i heard that the really fine sugar sand is not the best to use. i use agronite med sized but i did place a good amount of rock rubble in front of their burrow with in a day or two they had already used almost all the rubble inside the burrow to reinforce the walls. They are by far my favorite fish in my tank. they are constantly working on or rebuilding their burrow and mine do share the same burrow. i will try to post a pic tonite after work

From what I've read I would say at least 3" 4 I think would be better since they do grow to about 3 1/2". Mine spent most of it's time in it's hole or hovering just outside of it. It also has to be a mixed substrate with some shells for them to build in not anything fine. I am hoping to make some areas designated for this by building rock retaining walls in hopes that they actually build in them, the rest of my tank is mostly fine and not to deep so I'm hoping that it will force them to those areas.
