Default Atlantic Blue Tang

Just got an Atlantic Blue Tang. Does anyone know much about these fish? Do they like anything special to eat? He seems to eat the frozen food and nibbles at green algae sheets.
He's only been in my tank for 3 days. He is just so skittish I worry he might not be getting enough nutrition. Any info appreciated.

I just looked up the Tang and it seems its another one of those hard to keep species. But since you had good luck with your achilles then maybe you'll have luck with this one.

Default Lovin the Tangs

I was wondering how big your tank is? I read that you need a 100G tank for these fish. I would keep a whole tank full of tangs if i could. LOL

Hope this doesn't print twice. My tank with the atlantic is 55 gallons - plan to upsize in the fall.
The tang is only about 2 1/2 inches now, so should be fine for a while. He is beginning to come into the open to feed, so between what he eats from the back of the tank and the algae sheets, he should be ok. My tanks are small - 2X30 gal, 1x55gal, and 1x90gal - so 1 tang per tank. Have a friend with a 130 gal tank, she has 5 tangs but pretty much put them in at the same time. Good luck! with more than 1 tang. My achilles is so aggressive, the only thing he has "allowed" in his tank is an engineer goby (actually) 2, but they were so small - like 1 inch - he probably thought they were cleaner gobies. What size tank do you have? Maybe some other people have ideas about less aggressive tangs.

i have 3 tangs in my tank its a 125 i have a blue hippo, powder blue, and vlamingi, they seem to tolerate each other pretty well they kinda fought when i first added them but they calmed down after a couple days and now they don't fight i added them at seperate times they can be ok as long as you have plenty places for them to call their own.

I just got my atlantic tang yesterday, he also seems very skittish. I've seen him interested in eating but not actually eat anything yet. Hopefully he comes out of it soon.

Have 2 Atlantic blue tangs, 12 weeks now. They prefer strong water flow and decent conditions, nitrate is high in the tank with the 5" tang...yet the reef itself is flourishing with sft & hrd
lps, sps and gorgonia. Diet is bloodworm, mysis, krill, brine, purple+red+green dried seaweeds. All other food is frozen. Both will not take flake! The fish are active powerful semi aggressive fish...dominate each tank, yet are gentle with non aggressive fish and reef corals, with both fish. Give seaweed 3-4 times daily between feedings 3 times day with frozen blend above. They need extensive reef structure to feel comfortable at sizes under 8-10" and should be housed in large aquaria. They play swimming actively thru reef structure. In nature while diving i never saw smaller blue tangs only beautiful adults. In nature they hide alot when young, give ample hiding spots to replicate desire to hide.
The food recommended seems to be sufficient, as they grow fast! Enjoy...
