Default Powder Blue and Yellow Eye Tang

Well guys I bit the Tang bullet. I have wanted to have a tang or two in my tank for a while now. I bounced back and forth trying to figure out what tang I wanted and the list was Yellow Tang, Black Tang (but didn't want to fork out 450 dollars), Yellow Eye Tang, Powder Blue Tang, Powder Brown Tang, Purple Tang. Well my LFS had two very sharp and healthy looking tangs that were approxiamately the same size and had a sale 30 percent off all livestock today. I was just going to go with the Yellow Eye but I really wanted a Powder Blue. I watched him eat and he ate with gusto so I decided to bite the bullet and bought both. Looking at them they aren't quite the same shape and of course aren't the same color so hopefully the two will co-exist. The tank is 6 feet long and has tons of hiding spots. I have left the lights off since introducing them to the tank at around 4:30 pm. Did drip acclimation for about 2 1/2 hours. Both are beauts so I hope they get along. Will post pics and how things go soon.

Ok so this morning the Powder blue was out and about like a happy little puppy exploring his new tank. The Yellow eye is staying very much out of sight right now. I have seen the two of them get close to each other as the Powder blue explores the back. For the most part the Yellow eye simple tries to act transparent. I have seen a couple of shakes from the Powder when right next to the Yellow eye. I haven't seen any nipping or chasing by the Powder but he is definately keeping his eye on the Yellow eye. Just curious to hear from others with multiple tangs. Is this just a normal setting dominance or is this meaning the Yellow is going to live in fear and submission the whole time. I realize it is just the first 24 hours, but don't want the yellow eye which I now realize is slightly smaller to get super stressed.

Ok right as I was leaving to go to work. The Yellow eye decided to get a little brave (probably because he saw I had left). However the Powder blue then did a weak chase at him and scared him back behind a rock. I am thinking that maybe today after work, I would catch the Powder blue and let the Yellow eye get adjusted to the tank since he is slightly smaller and then re introduce the powder blue. Any thoughts from multi tang reefers?

Steven

I certainly wish you good luck with them! I agree that seperating them for a while and letting the smaller one get adjusted is probably a good idea. Do you have a QT set up for the powder blue to hang out in for a while?

Just an update. I got home today and saw both the Yellow Eye Tang and the Powder Blue Tang out eating algea off live rock side by side. The Powder Blue still occasionally gives him a little chase but nothing signifigant. I bought some food clips for them and installed them and put some dried seaweed in the clips. Unfortunately this gave both the tangs a scare and the Powder then proceeded to chase the Yellow Tang for a short bit. They both have stayed scared of the swaying seaweed. I turned off the lights and will keep the seaweed in there and hopefully they will get used to it and give it a try tomorrow. I also saw the blenny out a bunch today when I got home from work and the Powder has apparently calmed down on chasing him around too.

So far it looks like things will calm down and work out. *keeping my fingers crossed*

Which is what I am hoping for because the Powder blue looks great and gives a great look to the tank. I also really love the look of the Yellow Eye. When both of those guys calm down and get used to me being close to the tank then I will work on hand feeding them. It will be a slow training process.

I have a Vlamingi a Yellow and a Scopas tang, the vlamingi is clearly the boss (I actually may give him away, gets to big) he dominates the tank, but nothing major..

I will always keep 3 tangs in my tank, i just love them.

good luck
